Dental Emergencies
Dental emergencies can happen any time, and at Eyvazi Dental, we are happy to help you through emergencies such as a cracked tooth, or dental abscess. It is important to deal with an emergency early on so that it does not develop into a more serious condition.
Dental Abscess
A dental or tooth abscess can be caused by a variety of factors including extreme decay of a tooth, other type of injury to the tooth or even a broken or chipped tooth. A dental abscess is an infection that either occurs between the tooth and gum or at the root of the tooth.
An abscess tooth can cause a great deal of discomfort, including fever, pain when chewing, hot/cold sensitivity, halitosis, swollen neck glands, red and/or swollen gums, and open sore on the gum. If any combination of these symptoms are present, then you may have an abscess tooth.
Cracked Tooth
A cracked tooth may not hurt a lot initially, but it is important that it be fixed before it causes a more complicated condition like a dental abscess. A cracked tooth can be caused in ways that may not be commonly known, for example, clenching or grinding your teeth can result in a cracked tooth, or simply the way a person’s teeth are structured which might put undue pressure on one or more teeth. Ironically, tooth fillings and root canals increase the chances developing a cracked tooth. An endodontic treatment can help fix a cracked tooth, but more importantly it will prevent the development of even bigger dental issues down the line.
Root Fractures
A root fracture of the tooth occurs when excessive stress on the tooth causes a fracture which is below the gum-line. Depending on the depth at which the fracture occurs and the extent of the fracture, the prognosis will vary.
